There are some helpful people out there. I went to the hygienist yesterday- I've just started at a new dentist's. She was absolutely fantastic- very clued up on RA, its effects on the gums and vice versa. I had been struggling to clean/floss etc my teeth properly, and she was so helpful at showing me how to minimise discomofrt and make it easier. I was so impressed- my last one had never given me any advice and help at all.

HI, we HAVE A GREAT DENTIST NOW, when we moved to where we are now the dentist we had was awfull and had the most foul breath, we had alot of problems with her so after years of being misrable and some harsh words, we moved to where we are now and made the right choice,my kids(now 25 &27)actually go and he has been very caring to me,these days i give my teeth on a plate so thats fun, then he makes me talk, well mumble, yes its so nice to find people that care and with some knowledge and do theyre job well.my old practise closed not long after we changed,i wasnt surprised.

Hi Maria

Thanks for the post, I read in recent times that there is some connection with keeping healthy gums and RA so now make sure I make a good job! thank goodness for the electric toothbrush, well worth it especially with dodgy
arms.

Take care Julia x

Ah yes gums ... there's not a lot that RA doesn't affect Sad Oh well, still have a sense of humour and it ain't going to grab that too LOL

My son, Ian, completed the BUPA Great North Run on 15th September running for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS). You can read his story at http://www.justgiving.com/ianlukewilson

What's a hygienist?
My dentist is great , but a trip to a hygienist means they refer you to one in London ..and it's Private :O. Although i spose i could go to a Private one elsewhere ..on benefits so can't do that .
And usual story that there are no other NHS dentists available .

C'est la vie :(

Rich- a hygienist deals with cleaning, looking after gums etc- mine were quite inflamed.

Isn't there one at your practice?
